Coelophysis

SEE-lo-FI-sis – “Hollow form”

Coelophysis from the Late Triassic (220 million years ago) of New Mexico. This animal, like all theropod (beast foot) dinosaurs, had bird-like hollow bones, hence its unusual name.  A 1947 discovery of numerous associated skeletons at Ghost Ranch, New Mexico, suggests that  Coelophysis travel in herds.
