Ankylosaurus

An-KIE-lo-SORE-us – “Fused reptile”

Ankylosaurus  dates from the latest Cretaceous (65 million years ago) of the central Rocky Mountain region. This is an armored dinosaur that shared the end-Cretaceous landscape with the fearsome carnivore  Tyrannosaurus . It seems likely that the fused armor plates and spikes on the head and back of this animal, as well as the powerful bony club at the end of the tail, were a defensive response to the threat of a giant predator. Our reconstruction is only half-grown.
