We are fortunate to live on one of the world's famous fossil localities. The rocks of Cincinnati are 450 - 443 million years old and contain several different types of fossils. Each of the species shown below are extinct.
Horn coral
Brachiopod or lampshell
Cephalopod, an extinct relative of the octopus. This is the fossil of its long straight shell.
Left, a trilobite - an extinct arthropod related to the horseshoe crabs.
Right, a bryozoan - a colonial animal that produced twig-like structures that housed hundreds of minute filter feeding animals.
